Me United

2020

MeUnited is a dance short-movie by Lisa Frey and Daniel Rodrigues Correia. It tells the story of a woman on her journey, on the search for her true nature, her oneness. A complete cycle of falling apart and re-connecting. The film celebrated its premiere in january 2020 at Filmhuis Cavia (Amsterdam).

This movie was inspired by my own journey, realizing how far away we are sometimes from our own nature – especially living in the cities, working with high technology, being under big pressure. Slowly, slowly, parts in us die. And often something big has to happen (a sickness, a big change or deep experience) to make us realize what we lost on the way.

The good things is: It’s not lost. We just need to remember again. In my case being in nature, feeling whatever came up and giving myself a lot of space, silence and peace, helped to heal those parts in me that where neglected for a long time. But everyone has their own way and own journey. And this has to be told… I felt.

It was important for me to make the process, but also the performance itself, as authentic as possible. Very close to who and how we are in this moment. I was extremely lucky to have a team around me that was very sensitive and could improvise with me. Everything you see in the movie was created/improvised in the moment. Because we trusted each other and really felt each other, this was possible. And, in my eyes, this was the only way to create this kind of film. Not another dance film that is “perfect” and breathtaking in technique, looks and choreography. But something that is honest and “real”.

Thank you to Daniel (director/camera/edit), Michael (camera) and Stiene (dancer), who where floating so amazingly professional and sensitive through the shooting of this movie! And then of course: Cedric Vermue (composer/music), Sebastian Schatz (Sound Design), Juan Morales Calvo (Color Correction), Muriel Jansen (Costume) and my brother, Nicolas Frey (Poster/Graphic Design)
